Surgery!!!

Well, Emma had her CAT scan done today and then we met with Dr. Matlak (one of the pediatric surgeons) at Primary Childrens Hospital. He showed us the scan of Emma's lung and it blew me away. The cyst (or cluster of cysts) is taking up half of her left lung. It really was the craziest thing to look at. So Dr. Matlak told us he'd like to do surgery in about 2 weeks but then as we got talking about the risk of RSV and other illnesses he decided to postpone it until sometime in April. He worried that since the hospital is completely full right now with sick children that even if she were in intensive care she could still be in risk of getting sick from one of the other patients or visitors and then we would have some very serious problems. The surgeon said that if Emma were to get a serious infection in her lung then they would have to remove the entire lung instead of just one of her two lobes. He really lectured us about having sick kids (or any kids in general) around Emma. He suggested taking turns going to church so that she won't be around all of the sick kids there. Many people might think we are overreacting but Chris and I have talked and we've decided to adhere to the doctor's warning and be extremely careful with Emma. So for the next few months we are going to keep Emma fairly isolated, the last thing we want is for her to get sick and have more complications arise. Again we want to thank everyone for all of their wonderful thoughts and prayers in Emma's behalf. We're all praying that she will have a successful surgery and be able to continue on with an extremely normal life. If you have any other questions feel free to email or leave a comment.
-Love

I'm so sorry Suzanne. That is so stressful. I totally think you are doing the right thing by not going to church or having her around kids. Nursery and church is like a breeding ground for germs. You couldn't be having it done at a better hospital. We'll be praying and thinking of you.

Mike Wright was over yesterday and told us the news. I am so sorry. Faith has RSV or Bronchitis right now--so yes stay in or away from us at least. Ben has been so sick too. You will be in our prayers and thoughts. Let us know how we can help.
